Some estimates are that over 90 percent of American adults are suffering from omega 3 deficiency. Omega 3 deficiency is a condition where the sufferer has low levels of Omega 3 essential fatty acids in their body (and in their diet).

There are 2 primary Omega 3 essential fatty acids, DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). These are called essential fatty acids because they are very important to your overall health but are not manufactured in the body. You need to obtain them from your diet.

The benefits omega3 essential fatty acids were established originally after studies of people who ate large amounts of fish, because fish oil is the best source of these 2 essential Omega 3 fatty acids. These were the Japanese and the Eskimos and the studies concluded that the reason that these people have such low rates of diseases such as heart disease was because of their high intake of fish rich in Omega 3 fatty acids.

Here in the US most of us eat too much processed food, too much red meat, too much sugar and salt and not enough fish and so most of us suffer from an omega 3 deficiency from our low intake of fish. This produces a range of health problems which are all preventable.

These preventable health conditions include a number of fatal conditions such as heart attack and stroke. The American Heart Association recommends that we increase our intake of fish or supplement our diet with omega 3 supplements to increase our intake of these important essential fatty acids.

But a new study has now hammered home the reality, estimating that up to 96,000 Americans could be dying every year from omega3 deficiency. Whilst smoking is still the biggest preventable cause of death omega 3 deficiency is up there.

Omega 3 deficiency is easily prevented. Of course you can eat more fish however fish is expensive and mostly contaminated with toxins such as Mercury. However it is perfectly possible to get adequate levels of Omega3 fats in your diet by taking the highest quality Omega3 supplements which are cost effective and are not contaminated and can therefore safely and cost effectively be taken daily.

Chances are you’re one of the more than 90 percent of Americans who is potentially at risk of death from omega 3 deficiency, a condition that can be readily reversed. Even the American Heart Association now recognizes the importance of adequate levels of omega 3 essential fatty acids in our diet.

And it’s not just fatal conditions that result from omega 3 deficiency. By increasing your intake of essential fatty acids from fish oil you improve a range of other conditions which include ADHD, depression, diabetes, weight loss, arthritis, macular degeneration and even more.

Science has slowly understanding the importance of a regular intake of essential fatty acids found in fish oil to our diet and to our enjoyment of life and health. My quest is to educate readers on my website of all the benefits of Omega 3 supplementation, which may include saving your life.

But you need to understand that not all Omega 3 supplements are the same, and I also try to advise people how to compare Omega 3 supplements to get the best value.
